Sevendust @ The Rave, Dec 10, Wrap Up

Since this was webcasted on the Rave's site, I mainly just watched and enjoyed the concert with all the acts, Candlelight Red, Seven Day Sonnet, Eye Empire, and Sevendust!  Bonus tagging along with Evoked's party "School" bus!

Since it's my last concert as XRF '11,  had to put at least this one in...

Camera was shaking like crazy , so I put a stabilization edit in.. It's better not to embed this for one reason or another!

Think I got a few more to upload?

I'm trying to remember what happened this year:
With the L.A. Trip to see Alter Bridge at the House of Blues, and the concert marathon that started in March.  Only missed about 3 concerts, and Rockfest?! The must see events are, Band Camp and Rock the Ranch!  Both starring Five Finger Death Punch! (How did I make it out alive?!)
 - First concert in the Eagles Ballroom - Avalanche Tour with Stone Sour, Theory of a Deadman, Skillet, etc.
-  Mantown!
 - Even with a couple of bugs, the Droid X was a "Swiss Army Knife" before/during/after concerts.
- The Razor One Club Golf Outing was crazy fun.
- The DJ gig was an experience also!
- Meet and Greets with Pop Evil, Art of Dying, and Evanescence.
- Got more CDs for the car,  and digital downloads to cram in the Ipod Nano!
-  Oh yeah, all that beer! Had to get rid of a few cases!

The whole year was a great Razor Flashback! :)

Jaime, clear your vacation calendar!  You need the time to concert hop!

Thanks Razor!

XRF'12 Concert Starring A7X

Was trying to save the battery on the Droid X.  So, I put it in Airplane Mode.  But, that prevented me from getting a text to join the Razor 94.7 DJs on stage, before Avenged Sevenfold performed!  I was floored when Borna called me out by name!

So here's the next best thing I can do.....

That was a GREAT show!

Pit report: Skillet at Kimberly High School

Yes, the national band, Skillet, was in Kimberly of all places on Saturday, November 5.  There was an event going on called Power of One.  It's from the same people that brought you LifeFest.

Couple of bands opened for them, Disciple and Manafest.  Never heard of them until now!

Then, Skillet played, Wow!

Tantric Concert video

Hey, I found video from the Tantric show at Ridgeway on August 19th.  It's loud!
Credit: wiparty.com

Evanescence, Eagles Ballroom, Oct 21

Had to get there early enough for the meet and greet with the band. I joined a group of about 20 near the merch booth.   There's no tour books available for them to sign.  So I ended up buying their deluxe cd/dvd combo with bonus tracks on them.  Went on a splurge and bought the other Cd's also. They last longer than a drink for the same price!

Our group was led to a side room. Had to form a single file line around the room.  The band showed up and greeted us one at a time to chat. Mentioned that I seen them performed in Rock in Rio on youtube and it convinced me to see them.  They are all friendly and signed their part of the group photo in the case.  They also did a quick group picture with each of us.  (note:my pic turned out blurry)
The better pic is at http://www.therave.com/concert_picture_gallery.asp?view=pic&id=4466&pic=143&of=147

The Rave did have their own cameraman taking pictures too. Should be posted shortly on http://www.therave.com/concert_picture_gallery.asp?view=event&id=4466

They have incredible sound! I was too busy enjoying the concert to get any more video!  There's lots more if you do a search...

After the concert, on our way out, they were having the Pauly D (from Jersey Shore) DJ club event in the Rave Hall beneath the Eagles Ballroom. There was a guy on a megaphone saying that it's free to get inside.  I took a quick look.  More like a Big Night Club! Pauly D was not there yet. Got what I could before leaving...

Rock and Jock Flyaway, Fox Harbor, October 13th

The other day, when Razor was announcing on the radio, to text to qualify for the Rock and Jock Flyaway,  I thought, why not and texted.  a few weeks later, I got a text to show up at the Fox Harbor Pub and Grill in East Green Bay.

When I got there, found Borna and Roxanne setting up their table and equipment for the remote. They welcomed me into the place.  I ended up finding a table on the other side of the building to watch the Brewers play the Cardinals in NLCS Game 4.

During commercial breaks, heard Borna speaking about qualifiying in house for the Razor Rock and Jock Flyaway and picking out entries. Realized that I already qualified via text earlier.  Later, I went up and showed my text message Borna.  He gave me some grief about me winning this prize on top of being Extreme Razor Fan! I mentioned that they can always say "No" to me winning again! Roxanne found my number on the sheet and Borna gave me the raffle ticket. Since the place was packed, I had to get back to my table seat quick  before somebody else to watch the rest of the game.

Side note of the Miller Girls were roaming around the place doing the Miller Lite Promo. I did a little small talk with them and mentioned about getting a picture.  Only one picture turned out.  But, I was having fun!

When the game was over with the Brewers winning Game 4 of NLCS, Borna annonced that he's drawing ten raffle tickets.  The holder of those tickets get to come to the front with the Razor Staff and Miller Lite Girls.  He was calling off numbers, and people started making their way to the front.  When he drew the last number, it matched my ticket!   I started making my way to the front.  Borna seen me with a surprised reaction.  Roxanne gave me a Razor T-shirt and yelled "Calenberg!!!"  I was laughing and shrugging my shoulders while joining the other 9 people up front.

Since Borna called out the 10 finalists, they put the numbers in the small box again to shake up and draw again.  Each number elimated one of the finalists at a time.  I was still standing with my ticket, until they drew the 5th number for elimination.  While I was getting out of the final group, Borna mentioned to the crowd that don't feel sorry for him, since he's the Extreme Razor Fan!  I was still laughing at the whole thing!

They narrowed down to 3, then there were 2. Borna mentioned that the next elimination will get a pair a tickets for the Packers against the Rams game this weekend.  The other qualifier wins the half carat diamond ring, airfare, hotel, and pair of  tickets to the Packers playing the Chiefs in Kansas City, Missouri in December.

Congrats to the winner!  (I'll try to sleep now!)

Art of Dying on Tuesday, 8/23

Met the band @ Funset Boulevard, before their show.  Great bunch of guys from Canada! Started out with the Batting Cages.  Think they all took the Fast Ball. Then, some went mini golfing and the rest went back inside, to play games!  Then, we all were playing bumper cars!  Some members of the band were doing spins in the car!  Wish I got a pic of that!  Maybe Borna took some pics/video and are posted somewhere...either here or facebook.   Then, we finished it up with a pizza party, pics and autographs.

Went to JJ Maloneys to see the band later. Heard on the car radio of the emergency alert system about a tornado warning in west green bay and heading to Kaukauna. Had to dodge the tornado to get to JJ Maloney's!  Great Show!

FFDP interview @ the ranch

Stumbled onto this  FFDP interview at the ranch, before their show.

I'm taking back control, WITH MY KNUCKLES!!

Left around 10AM Saturday for Twin Lakes. The bands started playing at 11AM.  I was really trying to time my early check-in to the motel at 1PM, since it's a one way entry into the ranch.  Throw in some road construction on the way, rain, and traffic back up. Also, the Droid GPS threw me off, on the last mile, to the wrong address (office building) Turns out that the motel I was staying, changed their name again from the Save Inn to the Super 8.  Backtracked and checked in there.

Arrived to the Ranch at around 2. Talk about TSA level of check in at the door! They were checking a few of my cargo pockets for "contraband".  Then, got through the front gate.

Had to say it, on my way in to the VIP pit area, a short girl was standing in front of me with a stern look with fists on the side. I ignored and walked past her to the guy wearing the same shirt to get the VIP pit wristband. Guess she was part of the crew! LOL

Crossfade was done with their set on the second stage.  Black Stone Cherry was starting to play on the first stage.  Another band had cancelled their noon show because of the storms, more on that later.

I was dumb enough to bring a rain jacket and got it through security.  Came in handy later.  How this for timing,a rainstorm showed up during Halestorm's show! Some people had punchos on. The rest gets wet and muddy from the grounds, then get into the VIP Pit with the concrete ground.  There were some dirty girls!

Managed to get a few pics in of Saliva's show, but the downpour made me put the camera away.  The Droid X was short circuiting and shutting itself off anyway. Too crowded to take the phone apart and performing another battery pull.  Saliva was doing some great songs to get the crowd jumping in the rain! There was supposed to be an "somewhat official" video of the all concerts somewhere....  It was on an EZcode sign on a post, that was ripped down later. I seen a camera, mounted on a pole in the pit later in the day..

The rest of the bands were good too, but took a break during Candlebox and T.O.A.D.M's set to walk around the place to get some overpriced beer and food! What's the deal with all those food/$5 beer tix?!

Update:  I never owned any of FFDP music.  (I grew up watching Headbangers Ball in the early 90s!)  This band is worth downloading from itunes for the won ipod nano!  Got both of their released albums for the drive to work!

There were some rock bands doing the afterparty show, on the stage behind the beertent.  Anew Revolution sounded good. Then, the band that cancelled their show at noon due to storms, Royal Bliss. They were ok, but I was ready to get going.  The afterparty is a better way to spend time, then waiting for the backed up concert traffic to leave!  So, by the time I got to my car there was a lot less cars, but there's a major mud field! Had to try not to slip on my back, walking through to the back lot,  in the middle of the night. Then, spin mud up on the car to get going.  "The only way out is through!"

The next day, left a muddied hotel room.  Got sidetracked to Gurnee, a half hour away.  Thought about going Six Flags to make a day of it. But, the $60 admission on their web site (via the Droid X) threw that out.  Let's wait for FrightFest!

Plan B:  Mallwalked Gurnee Mills Mall.  Found a public multi-use ice rink and odd pocket pets to bring home. What is that! And they glide!  Surprised that cats don't eat them! Check out the photos.
www.sugarbears.com  (I didn't get them!)

Then, I drove back here.  (Thank you for using the Illinois Tollway, !$!!$%!)

Mayhem Festival , Tinley Park, August 5th

That was a trip getting there.  Underestimated the number of toll booths on the way!  (4)
And, a sidetrack on the last mile.  Took the wrong direction ramp, and was caught in a traffic jam!

Got there in time for the rest of Machinehead's set.  Then caught Megadeth, Godsmack , and Disturbed.
(still working on footage)

Megadeth and Godsmack delivered a great performance.

Band Camp @ Madison July 30th

Band Camp,http://www.jjobandcamp.com/ , was going on Saturday, July 30 in Madison, the very next day after the Pop Evil show in Neenah on Friday, July 29.

I left a little late and arrived to the Madison area motel at around 2. The motel was only over 2 miles away from the Alliant Energy Center Area, but had to get there in a hurry. Don't want to take the car over there, because of possible problems later. So, called a taxi over, and he dropped me off @ the Willow Island area, where Band Camp was already underway. Got there early enough and caught Pop Evil's entire set on the Main Stage! I must be nuts since I seen them the night before, then drive to Madison! They did a 30 minute set. Leigh didn't lose his whole voice from last night in Neenah! One difference is that Leigh did something  there for “Last Man Standing” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP7EU9GsknE

Each band that played, (Volbeat,Clutch, All That Remains, Egypt Central, Saving Abel, etc) were great shows, even though they were about 30 min each. http://youtu.be/xWWS8DRiEpY ,

It kept the day moving. The droid battery died at the beginning of the Clutch's set. I remembered to bring a spare battery and changed to that. Glad I did! Because, I caught Clutch and the headliner, Five Finger Death Punch! Talk about Moshing and Body Surfing!
http://youtu.be/nObJujjadwA

http://youtu.be/W00h2tXZ630
In the crowded mosh pit, some guy spilled his cherry doctor lemonade drink all over the front of my shirt! First, I was ticked, then realized that we are in a rock concert, accepted his “sincere” apology and told him to have fun! Think I got the audio on video...

Didn't know until FFDP's set that there was an afterparty, with more bands, at a bar that was 8 miles away from my motel. So that's why there was a lot of people waiting for the shuttle bus on the way back to the motel! Got too tired from the night before, drive, all day sun, mosh pit fun, and the DUI risk to go. I'll see about catching the next afterparty!
After the concert, all the cars were packed in getting out. With no car with me, getting a taxi in the after concert mess would be next to impossible. So, had to walk the 2 miles through city streets, using the droid GPS, back to my motel. Overshot the motel street and walked back. Think I was more of a target carrying a Papa Johns Pizza box in hand!

The next day, woke up an hour before my droid alarm clock. I stumbled to the hallway. The motel had a free continental breakfast available. Except, there's nothing safe enough to eat. “Apples not rinsed prior to consumption”. They had a waffle iron that is only on from 6 to 9. Their padlocked refrigerator was opened with some some strawberries (looked a little old) and waffle batter cups available. The main deal-breaker is, their waffle batter cups are in different shades of green! There goes that option. So had leftover Papa Johns Pizza, got ready and checked out..

With the crazy crowds and atmosphere, Band Camp is a definite GO for next year! I would have never went to this because of the distance and getting the tickets to an event I never experienced. With the tickets in hand and there are multiple big name bands playing at the same time. It's worth the trip. Have some tales from the Pit!

Thanks Razor!!

Pop Evil @ Razor / Ridgeway Bar, July 29th

Made it out to the Pop Evil acoustic recording event, in the Woodward Building, on Friday afternoon. I only expected a couple of members, but the whole band showed up! There were a larger group of people than usual, (band, some of the Razor/WAPL staff, other listeners), so the they made one of their meeting rooms available. Better than being crammed into the studio! It was treat being able to see them perform live! Talking to them was a trip too! Leigh said that they arrived from Florida, just as hot!  Oh yeah, we all received autograph copies of their War of Angels CD and Razor swag. The pics are on the site... There was supposed to be a video of their performance somewhere...
--------------
After friends and I went Outback for dinner, our group arrived to the Ridgeway Bar in Neenah. Found the bar was a little busy, with warmup bands playing. They were pretty good.

Then, Pop Evil was on stage and brought the house down with their show! And, they were playing in  Band Camp, in Madison, the next day (more on that later)

After their show was done, one of the buddies had to drive back to Green Bay. The problem is that we all arrived in his car. I wanted to stay.   While there was nothing going on at the time, we rode back to T.G.I. Fridays to get our own cars, then I drove back to Ridgeway.

When I got back, the band was out, mixing in with fans, Borna, and Elwood. I heard Leigh said earlier about drinking Hand Grenades. Never tried it myself, so I got one at the bar. That's a good hit drink!

Leigh arrived to the bar area, and was chatting to me on what's going on. Someone suggested about getting a group toast with Hand Grenades. Borna included me on that toast and it was covered. All the pics of that toast was taken and posted by Brian, that runs wiparty.com.  http://www.wiparty.com/PhotoGallery/

After things are slowing down, I said to Elwood that the next stop is Band Camp!

Razor One Club Golf Outing July 8th 2011

Before the outing, I practiced on the driving range with the 7 iron, from last years outing.  After 60 swings, I broke the club!  The club part flew on the backswing! (From too much digging)  At least no one was behind me.  Had to buy a replacement Oversize 7 club at Goodwill on Thursday night, the day before the outing.

After finding the course (via the Droid X Navigation), that was a great time messing around on Fox Hills Resort!  I even brought bright yellow golf balls, so we can see them better.  Still lost a couple! It's an improvement. (since I lost 7 last time!)  The good part is, that our group didn't win highest score, again!

The second half was good, with me talking smart with couple of other "happy" golfers and beer cart girls, while we closed down the Fox Hills bar. We were supposed to go to Time Out Sports Bar in Manitowoc.  Guessing everyone flaked out, but I did passed a squad car pullover on the way there!

After having a late meal at Time Out, started heading back to Appleton.  Getting sidetracked in Green Bay. That was a long night!

UFC132 @ Hooters.....

Ended up going there because, of the specials it had over the other place, and they serve pitchers!  So much wanted to make a wisecrack while Taylor was pouring my drinks in front of me. Only to break her concentration! The rest of the scenery distracted me more than usual!

The assistant manager gave me a fight card to make my winner picks from.  I was right on every match, except for the main event.  The bar manager drew my card out of all the others that missed a match too. I won the prize of the night, a Fathead lifesize cutout poster of Georges St. Pierre and 50 free wings!  What would I do with a 6 foot poster?! Sold it right away, should have Ebayed it!!

At least, I have 50 free wings!

DJ for a day 6-9-11

Have to say, being the guest DJ for the entire shift was a great experience!  Borna was a pro in running the first part of the show with me chiming in. I had free reign in picking the songs to put in play.

I was answering the Razor lines during the call in for Lifefest tickets, 10 lines lit up at the same time, wow!

Razor's console is slick in choosing the music and mixing in with the music flow.   They had to work together with a master timeline that has certain events and commercial breaks every hour.  (It pays the bills!)  Even though their library is vast of cleared songs to play, CDs still had to be used once in a while!   Borna showed me how the basic search controls worked. Then, I was picking songs of my own and putting them in queue, while Borna left to do a commercial in another room.  Then, on the other monitor, checked Razor's Facebook page, text message console, and email for requests. There's still some songs that either didn't fit the station format, not available, or get them all played before Hard Drive XL national feed show.

The toughest part of the whole thing is finding something smart to say between songs without getting messed up!   Shut up and Rock!!

While the songs were playing through, Borna showed me around the building.  There's 6 different radio stations under one roof.(Woodward Radio), complete with Sales and Support staff.

BTW: Razor's CD cabinet is full of good stuff! He let me take each copy!   Also got a bonus Seven Day Sonnet autographed poster!

I can cross DJ off my bucket list! :)

Thanks Razor!!

Godsmack @ Eagles Ballroom 5-29-11

I bet Godsmack was a great show! Caught one video online.  It would be nice to see the Sully Erna show on May 30th.

Could not make it to the show at the last minute. Can't go to every show that Razor has available!   To try something different, email me your posted links on the concert. If it works, I'll post the links here and give you credit.  Use a nickname if you want.  It will make concert footage easier to find.

Seether, Deftones, Drowning Pool, Egypt Central, will work also.

Disturbed, Nonpoint, Art of Dying, May 21st

That was a GREAT Show!  The other bands were very good, but Disturbed knocked it out of the park with their show!  Wanted them to play longer ( due to stopping concerts by midnight, city ordinance)

It was so packed that I couldn't get any decent shots! I did get some pics and will post them. The whole stage is one big display with their hits!

Something didn't work with pic posting. Here's Plan B:

Stone Sour @ Eagles Ballroom on 3/25

That was a great concert!  First time there!    When we arrived to the first bar after entering the building, I seen a mini stage. At first, thought, is that it?   Guess Not!    It's very big there. Looking at the design of the balconies in the ballroom, it was from another era of upscale events. Like plays or symphony music!

All the bands rocked!  Caught the ending songs of Art of Dying.  (free download of Die Trying on Itunes song of the week)

Managed to pick out Borna from the crowd that was walking by our group.  He led us to Roxanne and Elwood at the front of the crowd for Stone Sour!

Caught some footage of the concert. Most of it was a blur. I picked out the best ones from the Droid , (didn't use flash).  You get the idea!

BTW, caught video too. got some of the other bands also...

Detroit Needs A Statue of Robocop!

This is a real fundraiser.  The video is the whole movie crunched down to 10 min.  with,
(I know)...a rap tune!  See for yourself.

They already met their goal of $50,000.  Now, the statue will be made in better quality steel or bigger. Maybe, better location?  They are taking donations until Saturday, March 26th. Any donation will give you recognition on the statue.

Let's go to Detroit to see the statue, then to Windsor, Ontario, Canada to party with funny money!

UFC 126 at BW3's

Was at Buffalo Wild Wings to watch UFC 126.  Tried Hooters first and there was no place at the Bar or tables, and this is an hour before the event!  Should have known about the Prelims on Spike!

At BW3's, the bar was full too.  The tables were all reserved.  But I was allowed to sit at the rail.  Ironically, it's the best seat in the house!  I was watching the projection TV view right in front of me.  Like a wall big screen!  It was going great until halfway through the event, when the projector bulb burnt and popped!  What timing!  Ended up watching the rest of the event on the other TV's  One kick from Silva knocked Belfort out!  With over a minute into the first round!
